Slowness Issues
Slowness issues can be broken down into the computer itself, network issue, or a combination of both as stated in other knowledge base articles.
- Computer Issue:
If the computer is running slow, it can be due to many factors. The first thing to try is to restart the computer and see if that helps. Rebooting the computer will allow the computer to start at a clean state.
If rebooting does not help, checking the task manager will help to narrow down the issue. If the CPU usage or RAM usage is high even though not many applications are running, it can be due to unwanted background services running in the background or faulty hardware. Malware or viruses can also cause these issues. High disk usage can be due to similar reasons but it is more likely due to faulty hardware.
If the computer or device is extremely outdated, it will likely need to be upgrade or replaced.
- Network Issue:
The first thing to do is to identify if the network connection is wired (Ethernet) or wireless (Wi-Fi). If you are using a wired connection, make sure the ethernet cable is properly connected to the computer. You will need to check if the other end is connected to a switch or ethernet wall jack. If there is no ethernet cable physically connected to the computer, you are most likely using wireless connection. If you are using a mobile device, such as smartphones, you are also likely using Wi-Fi. For Wi-Fi, make sure you are using the correct network and make sure you are using the latest drivers for the Wi-Fi adapter.
The second thing to identify is if the slow internet issues you are having is happening only to you or everyone else that are on the same network. If the problem is occurring only on one computer or device, it is likely that it has to do with the device itself or configuration settings. If the issue is universal, you will need to contact the IT department since it will have to do with the network infrastructure and/or internet service provider (ISP).
Please immediately contact the IT Help Desk Team if it is a universal network issue that is occurring to multiple users.
